Dear anyone who feels a little awkward in front of the camera,
You might arrive wondering where to stand, what to do with your hands, or whether your child will cooperate for even one photograph.
That is completely normal.
A Dear Jenny session is relaxed, lightly directed, and built around the people you already are together. You do not need to know how to pose. Your children do not need to sit perfectly still. Your dog does not need to suddenly develop excellent manners.
We begin simply.
I may start with a few photographs where everyone is close together and looking toward the camera. I will help with where to stand, how to settle in, and what to do when it all feels a little unfamiliar.
Then we let the session breathe.
There may be walking, playing, cuddling, exploring, or a small snack negotiation happening just outside the frame. I will offer prompts and gentle direction when it helps, but I am also watching for the moments that happen naturally.
The laugh after someone makes a strange noise.
The tiny hand reaching for yours.
The look between two people who know each other by heart.
The dog who has decided this entire production was arranged in their honor.
Those in-between moments are often where the story lives.
My photography is a little posed, a little playful, and a little perfectly imperfect. I want you to have the beautiful portrait where everyone is together, but I also want the photographs that feel unmistakably like your family.
The movement. The expressions. The small details you may not realize you will miss someday.
Sessions can take place outdoors, at home, or in another setting that feels meaningful to you. We will choose a location that fits the kind of photographs you want and gives everyone room to settle in.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly rehearsed plan. I will guide the session while leaving space for personality, connection, and whatever unexpected little moment wanders in.
Because the goal is not to make your life look perfect.
It is to remember what it felt like while it was yours.
